MHiMA Update - Public consultation, 5th National Mental Health Plan submission

MHiMA Team - Friday, February 05, 2016

Latest update from Frank Quinlan, CEO Mental Health Australia:

The MHiMA project has hit the ground running this year with a public consultation process, new project staff and a submission to the 5th National Mental Health Plan.

Feedback for the public consultation closes next Friday, 12 February. We encourage anyone interested in multicultural mental health and wellbeing to provide us with feedback and particularly encourage people from CALD backgrounds who are either living with or caring for someone with mental illness, or who have expertise in working with CALD populations to comment. The consultation is seeking your views on the future direction of the MHiMA Project.  For more information please visit our website.

The NCCCWG has provided a submission to MHDAPC on the 5th National Mental Health Plan. The submission recommends a number of key focus areas relevant to improving mental health and well-being outcomes for people from multicultural backgrounds in Australia and will be available shortly.

If you are interested in learning more about the NCCCWG and their important work please visit our website.

The MHiMA Project team are also organising face-to-face workshops on 17 and 18 February in Canberra, to consult with the NCCCWG and the Project Advisory Group on recommendations for the future of the project. I am looking forward to these workshops and the great ideas that will be generated.

Project Consultation Forum in the ACT

As part of the public consultation on the MHiMA Project future directions, many states and territories are holding community forums/focus groups to garner feedback from CaLD communities, carers and consumers, service providers and others with an interest in the multicultural mental health sector and the MHiMA Project.

The ACT Multicultural Mental Health Network with the support of the Mental Health Community Coalition ACT (MHCC ACT) will be holding a consultation forum facilitated by Sebastian Rosenberg.  This is a broad community consultation, but we would especially like invite people of multicultural backgrounds, carers, consumers, service providers, community workers and mental health professionals and all those with an interest in multicultural mental health to attend and provide their perspectives on the future directions of the MHiMA Project and multicultural mental health.

The event will be held on Monday the 15th February 2016 from 4pm – 7pm at the Griffin Centre, 20 Genge Street, Canberra City.  Refreshments and afternoon tea will be provided.

For further information or to rsvp please visit the MHCC ACT website or phone 6249 7756.
